personal example - buying a new house
Our busy family has outgrown their home, and they're on the prowl for a new one!
However, buying and moving into their new home is going to take some thought and effort if it is to go smoothly. They put the following plan together to make sure they end up with the home of their dreams.
In this example we make three key points about successful charting:
1) Your choice of planning sequence really matters to your success.
2) Map out the big goals and broad actions first.
3) Use Telescoping to manage sub-projects and detail.
A Master Chart takes the form of:
In Alisar Charting, the Master Chart looks like this:
So what is the master End Result for our busy family?
What is their Current Reality?
What broad Action Steps do they propose to move from Current Reality to their End Result?
Now lets add a sub-project:
This is called Telescoping the Action Step.
The Action Step becomes its own project chart - in this case a Level 2 Chart.
The detailed Level 2 End Result:
And the detailed Level 2 Current Reality:
Proposed Action Steps include:
Summary
For best results, always use this planning sequence:
1) Define your End Result.
2) Determine Current Reality.
3) Compare the two, looking for the differences.
4) Invent Action Steps to change Current Reality until it matches your End Result.
